Community

The village that thinks it’s a camp.

Think: you and the bigtooth maple. You and the sensation box elder. You and your kids.

Our Ethos

Down to earth.

There’s fresh air for the taking in the meadow, lattes and daypacks at The Shed, bike and trike paths to school and the pool, and a sledding hill for kids young and old. Set in the great wide open, Terraine has a small-town, good-natured village feel, complete with neighborhoods fanning out from central gathering places. But it’s also got miles of trails which have a way of broadening all horizons. Take in the view. Marvel at your good fortune, for this is home. This is real life.

It all starts at The Shed.

A singular destination, The Shed is a lot of things: the community’s basecamp, clubhouse, outfitter, work-from-home way station, and welcome center for homeshoppers.

From the dramatic sloping roof down to the ceiling-to-floor walls of windows that flood the space with light, The Shed is made for the seasons. Stop by! The great big entry doors open wide to invite the breezes in spring and make it snug and cozy in winter. Bonus: there’s a rotating art gallery, and when you join the folks in front of the fireplace you get to sample some of Terraine’s special warmth.

AMENITIES

The outside is in.

“How can a community emerge out of the land instead of being imposed upon it? How can habitat be enriched instead of marginalized? How can wild and man-made be blended into a new vital fabric so that everything can live together? These are important, paradigm-shifting considerations we are working to create a new model for.”

SUSTAINABILITY

Live well.
Do good.

Is it possible to have one foot in the grasslands
and the other planted firmly in the future? And what does that look like? How about this: a sustainable community in a thriving hybrid habitat. Proving that you can live lightly on the land.

Creating a community that can benefit both the people and the place takes a good amount of thought. In an arid environment like this one, it also calls for a responsible water conservation plan. Above all, it calls for a sensitive approach to planting. That includes natural landscapes: drought-resistant plant species, a mix of resilient native plants, and a weaving-through of other interpretive plant palettes. This creates an organic connection between our neighborhood and the local open space. The decision to manage the landscape rather than maintain it means we get out of the way and allow natural processes like competition, succession, and pollination to determine how things grow. And that feels good. Like with people, there are deep roots, and there are some transplants. Interests may bloom one year, and sit out the next. Terraine embraces that change.

HomeBUILDERS

Homes live here too.

With Terraine being the kind of place it is,
we needed future-focused partners at every step.

Creative. Collaborative. Forward-thinking.

We’re different. We turn remarkable settings into exceptional places to live. How? By discovering symbiotic connections between nature, resources, unique lifestyle opportunities and a design language that is both progressive and enduring. It’s a highly collaborative and lengthy approach that leads to original and carefully crafted outcomes. We aim to make a difference in how new places are envisioned and the joy that comes to those who inhabit them.
