Unfolding under the wide-open canopy of sky, Terraine has its own distinctive village-meets-camp style. That means fun comes in every flavor—from enjoying the solitude on a starlit night to a calendar full of stellar activities and events.
There’s a lot of talk about bonding with nature, but bonding with neighbors is easy here too, where friendships grow as well on mountain bluebell hikes as they do at the evening concert.
Calibrate your compass, commune with nature, and explore all the ways to satisfy intellectual curiosity here. In a setting like this, there’s a lot of learning going on and it’s not limited to the classroom: nature can be a great teacher.
From the sage-scented air and the morning’s first sip of dark roast to the heft of a rough-hewn wooden door on your way in, life here is an experience for all the senses.
With an environment of safe streets, paths, and trails for meandering and biking, kids get a unique kind of freedom that parents might recognize from their own childhood.
Purposeful engagement, education, and restoration efforts build community around what it means to be a steward of the environment. Less consuming, more growth.
It’s not for us to say the kinds of connections that’ll be forged—that’s up to you—but common interests flourish as well as uncommon interests where there’s room enough and time.
Today, they’re the exception, but here, they’re plentiful. Fresh air can do wonders. With miles of intentional trails and paths, a kindergartener can make her way to school, or to the Lantern Library, and then to The Shed for hot cocoa. Because Terraine is a different kind of place, this is a different kind of kid.
Who remembers poking around a pond, crunching leaves, or tapping maple trees (instead of iPad screens)? And who hasn’t felt the inescapable lure of technology? It’s not just kids—it’s all of us. But where are kids to play these days? We’ve got the answer: in their own great, big, natural neighborhood, with safe streets, paths, and trails. And parents are welcome!

Principal, Antelope Canyon Elementary School
Sure, Terraine kids will go to school here—and we’ve got a whole section about that to the right (our left). The bonus here is that the learning, discovery, and growth will extend far, far beyond those walls. Our community is a real-life ecosystem, an environmental encyclopedia, and a living library. Here, kids get to be kids, but they can also be citizen scientists who might just become grown-up scientists.
Terraine’s school is taking shape just a stone’s throw away via the ribbonwalk trails. While it’s busy coming to life, Terraine kids will attend nearby Antelope Canyon Elementary, where principal Angie Hamilton is partnering with Terraine to develop a rich curriculum with a special focus on habitat and conservation—key subjects for both our community and the next generation.
Terraine’s stewardship programs will provide ongoing experiences, education, and volunteer opportunities—everything from citizen science and astronomy events, to planting blitzes and sageland restoration efforts. And there is the promise to the future too: that we’ll nurture this splendor, for safekeeping until this next generation can take up the stewardship role when it’s their turn.
Sometimes it’s about the journey and sometimes it’s the destination. Happily, at Terraine, it’s both. A specially designed ribbonwalk runs through the community. It’s a friendly get-anywhere path where you can you stroll with a neighbor, stop and sketch under a leafy maple, or meander through meadows of wildflowers.
What better place to start this new chapter? The glass greenhouse structure is the first lantern in a series of these community landmarks to be built throughout the community. This neighborhood spot sets the tone for Terraine: everyone who lives here gets to contribute a favorite book. The function of future lanterns will also be determined by residents.
Because Terraine has such interesting—well—terrain, it makes sense to make the most of it. Thanks to the lofty topography around here, the vistas you get along the ribbonwalk are unlike those you’re likely to see elsewhere in the basin. One third of Terraine is preserved open space, and our own special trail showcases the view. You can even elevate your mind, with a stop at the lantern library.
Because the natural habitat flows through the neighborhoods and gathering spaces, there’s a seamless connection between in here and out there. Preserving this balance is so important that there’s even a designated nursery for native and drought-tolerant plants. Isn’t it nice to know there might be a baby Gambel Oak getting ready to make its debut, just right nearby?
